When we set out to open Oregon E-Bikes, we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. We built this tiny 500 square foot addition onto our watersports shop Big Winds and crossed our fingers. It has since been an awesome 9 years of living, breathing and riding e-bikes with all of you! As we prepare to close our shop (more on our huge storewide sale below!) we’re reflecting on how far the e-bike revolution has come since we began.
In 2016 e-bikes were a rarity. Many of our conversations started with ‘What is an e-bike?’ We knew from experience that to grasp the magic you just needed to get on one, so we focused on test rides, rentals and demo events and bore witness time and again to the inevitable smile and giggle during someone’s first ride.
E-Bikes surprised us most by dramatically improving our customers’ lives. Whether the goal was to keep up with family and friends, drive less or become active again after a long hiatus, the list of inspirations bringing customers through our doors grew and grew and, along with it, a community of riders.
I was invested from the start on a personal level. Taking ownership of the e-bike shop tapped into my love of bikes and kept me on the trails with my dad who was undergoing cancer treatment at the time. Now my own kids want to come along for the ride and an e-cargo bike has opened up our world. I continue to feel pure joy each time I’m on my bike. As my team and I step back to spend time with our families and to support Big Winds’ growing operations, we’re so thankful for the miles we’ve ridden and the relationships we’ve gained.
